Grade 4:  Regions of Our Country
Through dynamic and interactive lessons, based on enduring understandings and essential questions, Regions of Our Country presents five regions of the United States through the lens of four social scientists: economist, geographer, political scientist, and historian. Students will assume the role of a social scientist as they explore what makes each region of the United States unique.  They will investigate the features that make the regions distinct and the role they play in shaping our country.  Students will also apply what they have learned about our nation as they research Pennsylvania.  Involving the students in the active learning process is essential to this program.
As you prepare to teach this curriculum, some essential questions to consider include:

·       What are social scientists and what role do they play in shaping our country?
·       How has geography helped shape daily in each of the five regions?
·       What contributions have different groups made in society and what cultural influences have impacted each region?
·       What factors impact a region’s economy?
·       What historical events are significant to each region?
