Secondary Science Parent Page

Our K-12 science philosophy, principles, program concepts and processes are aligned with the National Science Education Standards (NAS, 1996) and the Pennsylvania Science Education Standards. Our instruction is framed around essential questions and active learning. This site is designed for our parents, who may be looking for resources to encourage a student who is taking an interest in science.

The following resoures can be wonderful jumping off points for new science adventures:

Science Daily - is a great site, with the latest news about research in the world of science. No matter what your student is interested in they have a section dedicated to it.

learningscience.org - is a web site full of free, world class resources for any science topic from kindergarten to twelfth graders! Visited by thousands of teachers and students each week. Try some of these interactives and simulations yourself, you'll be surprised how much science you learn! This site was created and developed right here in the Central Bucks School District.

Science Buddies - is an awarding winning website that helps students with science fair ideas, answers, and tools. A great site to explore for the serious student.

Summer Programs - If you are looking for a science focused summer program for your student, you may want to consider The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth program. The feature programs for Grades 2 to 6, and also Grades 7 and 8, and more. You can apply on their own if they find a program they think their student would enjoy. They also have a nice Frequently Asked Questions section.

Tuesday's Science Times in the NYTimes - Each Tuesday, the New York Times has a section devoted to new and information about science. It is a great resource and the Times lets you print out the article for free each Tuesday, even if you don't have a subscription. This is a great resource.
